Privacy Policy — Manna: Verses for Today

Manna is a Chrome extension that replaces your new tab page with a Bible verse, a photo backdrop, and shortcuts. This page explains what data Manna accesses and what happens to it.

The short version

Manna does not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to me or to any third party. Everything Manna needs to work is either fetched fresh each time (like headlines or verse text) or stored only in your own browser, on your own device.

What Manna accesses, and why

• Your most-visited sites (Chrome's topSites permission). Used only to build the second row of shortcuts on your new tab page. This list is read locally by the extension and is never sent anywhere.
• Favicons. Used to show each shortcut's real site icon instead of a placeholder. Fetched through Chrome's own favicon service.
• Your settings (name, translation choice, backdrop mode, pinned shortcuts, optional Pexels key). Stored using Chrome's built-in storage, on your device. If you have Chrome Sync turned on, this travels through your own Google account the same way your bookmarks do; I never receive a copy of it.
• Today's headlines. Fetched from Google News' public RSS feed each time your cache expires, purely to match a verse to the day's news. Headlines are cached briefly on your device and are not sent anywhere else.
• Verse text. Fetched from bible-api.com in the translation you choose. If you're offline, Manna falls back to a small built-in King James Version library bundled with the extension.
• Backdrop photos. Either a locally generated gradient (no network request), a daily photo from Picsum, or, only if you supply your own free API key, a photo from Pexels.

What Manna never does

• It doesn't track your browsing history beyond the one-time read of your top sites list described above.
• It doesn't use analytics, trackers, or advertising SDKs of any kind.
• It doesn't sell, rent, or share any data with third parties.
• It doesn't require an account, login, or email address.

Optional giving link

Manna includes an optional heart icon, off by default, that links to Jurong Christian Church's giving page for anyone who'd like to support their work. Clicking it opens JCC's own website in a new tab; Manna has no role in and receives no information about anything that happens on that page.

Changes to this policy

If Manna's data practices change, this page will be updated and the version note at the top will reflect the new date.
